WHAT IS EMDR ?
EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION REPROCESSING is a method of psycotherapy proven effective for the treatment of trauma, panic disorders and anxiety. When distressing events are experienced or witnessed the brain may not process the information as it does ordinarily. It can become "frozen in time" so visual, auditory or tactile reminders trigger disturbing responses. EMDR assists the brain in resuming normal processing and resolving exaggerated responses so that a person no longer relives images, sounds, feelings, and bodily sensations brought on by the original event(s).
EMDR is also used to desensitize cravings associated with substance abuse and behavior addictions such as gambling, smoking, sex, and binge eating.
